One sympathiser of the proscribed RPF/PLA has been arrested along with a number of arms and ammunition by Thoubal police commandos from Ukhongshang this morning.
Addressing a press meet at Thoubal Police Hqs this afternoon, Senior SP Clay Khongsai said that Thoubal police commandos led by Inspector Chandrakumar, acting on specific information about presence of UG cadres, conducted a search operation in Ukhongshang area.
In the course of the operation, RPF/PLA sympathiser Thokchom Biren (43) of Ukhongshang Yambem Leirak was pulled up from his home at about 6.30 am.
Acting on the disclosure of Biren, one AK-56 rifle, three magazines containing 79 live rounds were seized from his house.
Further interrogation revealed that arms and ammunition of the PLA were being hidden in Ukhongshang paddy fields.
Commandos recovered four 9 mm pistols, four magazines, 100 numbers of live rounds, 20 hand grenades of different size along with detonators, 271 live rounds of M-16 ammunition, 232 rounds of AK ammunition and four rounds of 7.62 calibre from the paddy field, said Clay Khongsai.
Saying that the seized arms and ammunition belonged to PLA�s auxiliary unit, the SSP said that the district police is maintaining a strict vigil over movement of armed UG cadres in Thoubal district.
