The two-day long 'Capacity building programme for journalists in Manipur on their role in addressing human trafficking issues' which got under-way at Manipur Press Club here concluded today on a positive note of enhanced co-operation between media and NGOs in combat human trafficking.
Working out a plan of action at the end of the two-day long interactive session, both media and NGOs working in the field made a commitment to enhanced partnership in taking up the issue of human trafficking in the Northeast region with specific focus on women and children who are more vulnerable.
On the second and last day of the workshop, child rights activist Nandini Thokchom spoke on 'Trafficking in children and child rights' while team leader of the Shillong based Impulse NGO Network Hasina Kharbhih on 'Role of media in reporting human trafficking issues' as well as on 'Role of media/NGO in combating child trafficking : Safe migration and human trafficking'.
Supported by United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), the programme was organised jointly with Impulse NGO Network as the nodal implementing agency, Manipur Press Club as media partner, Ereima Gender Empowerment Resource Centre as State partner and Sustainable Development Centre as the district partner.
