Imphal, October 02 2009:
Properties worth around Rs 30 lakhs have been destroyed in a devastating fire that gutted a house at Nagamapal here in the wee hours today.
Information received from the Fire Service Department said that the fire broke out at around 2.30 am from one of the shops attached to the house of Hajarimayum Sachindrakumar Sharma (44) of Nagamapal Khwai Bramhpur.
Ruling out faulty electric short circuit for the ignition of the fire, the source said that it may be from a naked lamp.
Apart from preventing the fire from spreading to other neighbouring houses, the fire fighters also managed to salvage various goods.
According to the owner of the house and the shops, Sachindrakumar, there were in all four grocery shops and one Ngari shop below the double-storeyed house built of wooden planks with tin-roofings.
His family members live on the upper floor.
He estimated the loss in the fire at around Rs 30 lakhs though the Fire Service is yet to work it out officially.
There is no report of anyone hurt in the fire.
