Punjab fencers spilled hosts Manipur's determination to make a clean sweep of all the top titles in the 11th National Junior Fencing Championship at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium today.
On the penultimate day of the championship that begun from February 16 at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Manipur fencers collected three more gold medals in various weapon categories with the only setback coming in boys team foil where the State quartet of Y Premjit, A Rupachnndra, Chingsomba and Y Ranbir suffered a narrow one point loss to Punjab fencers.
Chandigarh and Assam shared the third spot.
The Punjab lads pipped Manipur at 15 points to 14 to open its gold medal account and with the six bronzes have climbed to second position behind the hosts State who has collected eight gold and six silvers with a day remaining for the championships.
However, Manipur quartet of Dinesh, Sovaraj, Jayenta and Sovin Singh avenged the loss defeating Punjab in boys team foil final by 15 points to 10 where Andhra Pradesh and Assam had to be satisfied with the bronze medals.
N Harina, Th Tingku, Th Daina and N Joymala added the seventh yellow metal to the State account after routing Karnataka girls 15-2 in the sabre event final with Punjab and West Bengal occupying the third spot.
In all Manipur affairs, S Jayanta defeated O Sovaraj 15-4 to wrest the gold medal in boys individual foil competition to further bulge the State medal count to eight.
Earlier, in the individual girls� epee competition semi finals Nillu of Manipur defeated Ruchi of Punjab 15-6 while Sandhyarani downed Ranjit Kaur also of Punjab 15-9 thereby insuring another gold for the hosts in the category.
