Envisaging great prospect for development of food processing industries in the State, Commerce and Industries Minister Th Devendra Singh has inaugurated a Food Processing Training Centre (FPTC) at Porompat in Imphal East district today.
The Minister also inaugurated a four-week entrepreneurship development programme on Food and Agro-Processing Industries in Manipur at the occasion.
Speaking at the function, Devendra said that Manipur, inspite of lack of infrastructures for setting up big industrial units has great prospect for development of food processing industries with its abundant agricultural and horticultural products.
These products could be reaped and stored properly and used them for development of the industries for generating income, he said, emphasizing on the need for taking special attention in this regard from now onwards.
He also called upon the educated unemployed youths to take part in such training so that they could start their own food processing industrial units and earn their livelihood.
Secretary of Commerce and Industries Dr RK Nimai Singh and retired Chief Food Technologist G Nandalal Sharma attended the function as president and guest of honor.
The Entrepreneurship Development Programme which began from today under the sponsorship of Union Ministry of Food Processing is meant for people living in Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
