Properties worth Rs 9,26,920 have been reportedly destroyed in fire incidents that broke out since the beginning of the year 2004 till February 12 in the State.
Information received from Manipur Fire Services, Headquarters here at Imphal said that among the 14 fire service stations of the Station, the headquarters received and attended to as many as 18 cases during the said period of 43 days followed by Moirang Fire Sub-Station where five fire calls have been attended.
Thoubal and Bishnupur Fire Sub-Stations have also received and attended to four incidents of fire break each besides one case each at Jiribam, Mayang Imphal and Ukhrul Fire Sub-Stations during the first 43 days of the year.
Fortunately no case of fire-incidents have been report from Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Moreh, Sugnu, Churachandpur, Kakching and Singhat fire stations The total amount of property involved in these cases was estimated at Rs 1,23,89,100, however, due to alertness and effective services of the Fire fighters, a properties worth Rs 1,14,62,180 could be saved from devastation, the source said.
Most of the fire incidents related to burning of houses, shops, vehicles and straw-mounds and the devastation have been caused mostly due to human negligence, like throwing of lighted cigarette/bidi buds, explosion of LPG cylinder and electric short circuit, source stated.
Relief aid: All Community Finance and Investment Organization, Pallel Bazar has distributed relief materials to 32 families whose houses and shops have been gutted in the fire which broke out at Pallel Bazar in the intervening nights of February 12 and 13.
