As part of the State Government endeavor to popularize the game of Polo considered to have originated from Manipur, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports will soon frame a 'Manipur State Polo Policy', said reliable source.
With Polo declared State Game of Manipur separate budget would be allocated for further development of the game, informed the source who did not mention the precise date of placing the proposal.
Under the proposed policy requisite measures to maintain a grazing ground for Manipuri ponies, preserving the breed and establishing an industry for manufacture of equipment, needed for the game would be taken up, detailed the source.
Establishment of a Polo museum, necessary steps to encourage polo associations and to boost polo players would also come under the purview of the new policy besides constituting a board/council with the Chief Minister as chairman and Sports Minister as the vice chairman, said the source.
The proposed policy also envisages steps to preserve and develop traditional games like Kang and Thang-Ta.
Meanwhile, noted Italian writer, anthologist and photo-journalist Fulvio Cinquini will stay for two days during his State visit to write a book on polo in Manipur and will have extensive talks.
