Imphal, February 11, 2010:
The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) and tribe presidents along with its executives in a meeting held on February 9 at its office in Senapati district head-quarters took a strong decision not to host the forthcoming State level festival of Lui Ngai Ni at Senapati district headquarters, said an NPO release issued today by its general secretary Simon Chawang.
Conveying that decision against Senapati being the host venue for the State level festival was taken on the ground of strong opposition from 'majority tribes' basing on certain stringent norms of Naga customary, culture and tradition, and also the status and protocol of the guest, Simon further maintained that NPO and the tribes were neither consulted nor informed in finalising any programme on of the event.
"The programme committee refused to review any event of the programme which are not practical to perform in the district.
UNC refused for any alteration and forced to perform the celebration at their own wish and interest," the release added.
Stating that the above circumstances constrained the NPO to decide against celebration of the Lui Ngai Ni festival 2010 at Senapati district headquarters, it also called upon tribes concerned to organise the celebration at their respective headquarters according to their conveniences.
