Imphal, February 11, 2010:
The agitating Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister of road Transport and Highways, Kamal Nath for the latter's immediate intervention on the issue surrounding development of the National highway-39.In the representation reportedly submitted through the district's Deputy Commissioner, the SDSA urged the Union Minster to expedite process of improving the NH-39 by handing over the same task to the BRO.
An SDSA statement issued by its president A Pfokrehrii Khrasi today also accused the State Government of not honouring agreements reached between the two entities on the highway development issue.
Denouncing alleged failure of the State Government to either honour the agreements or translate into action numerous assurances, SDSA maintained that it had been compelled to resort to enforce the ongoing economic blockade as an earlier milder former of agitation has failed to evoke positive response from the State authorities.
The Union Minister was also highlighted on the visits of a Central team led by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry Vijay Chibbar which was followed by a similar sojourn by the Union Home Ministry's Secretary GK Pillay and subsequent assurance on the highway development issue.
SDSA further pointed out to kamal Nath regarding the State PWD declaring that black topping of the highway section in Senapati district would be taken up after the rainy season is over, which the student body said has turned out to be false and misleading.
In reality till date the only visible sign of road development work is limited to laying mud and stone chip mixture which is causing more inconveniences to the people of the State in general and the Senapati denizens in particular, SDSA maintained in its memorandum.
It also mentioned of repeated apprisals to the State authorities failing to evoke the desired result for imposition of the current mode of agitation.
