Imphal, February 11, 2010:
With the stock of petroleum products running low again following reimposition of the Senapati District Students Association sponsored economic blockade, Indian Oil Co-operation (IOC) has written to the State Govt for providing adequate security for the movement of oil tankers.
In its letter written today addressed to the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Dept, Govt of Manipur, IOC pointed out that the existing stock of petrol, kerosene and diesel in the State would last upto only 12, 25 and 8 days respectively while the remaining stock of Aviation Turbine Fuel is for 22 days and that of the domestic cooking gas at the Sekmai Bottling Plant is for just 3 days.
Owing to the resumption of the blockade, no tanker of petroleum products arrived at Imphal today though empty tankers have been escorted from here.
In the letter, the IOC has also requested the Govt for providing adequate security to ensure free movement of the tankers carrying petroleum products and LPG bullets along the National Highway specially while passing through Senapati district, the source revealed.
Meanwhile, the State Govt has reportedly established contact with the Chief Secretary of Nagaland Govt for ensuring necessary escorts for the Imphal bound oil tankers.
Taking into consideration of the stock of petroleum products running low, the State Govt has also given necessary instruction to all the District Magistrates and the SPs to check unauthorised issuing of oil at all the oil pumps.
