Taking earnest note of the new developmental concept of city twinning to be taken up by the Union Ministry of Urban Development with the main objective of promoting bilateral relationship between India and France in many areas, the Government of Manipur has already submitted a proposal for twinning Imphal and Paris.
According to a reliable source, twinning of France capital Paris and Manipur State capital Imphal has been proposed with an eye on promoting friendly relation, study of culture and art, language and movement of people between the two cities.
Special focus would be given to movement of people with regard to health education, social services, etc as well as in trade and investment.
Materialisation of city twinning of Imphal and Paris would also lead to development of technology through exchange of knowledge.
To be implemented by the Union Ministry of Urban Development, the new developmental concept of city twinning is a project to be taken up as Indo-France partnership, the source disclosed, while recalling that for the implementation of the project, the first Indo-France seminar on co-operation was held at New Delhi from January 15 to 17. On the other hand, a delegation of State officials to be led by Education Minister is scheduled to visit South Korea from February 22 to 26 to meet the officials of that country to discuss possible areas where Manipur and South Korea can promote mutual co-operation.
