Imphali, February 12, 2010:
Coalition on Children's Right to Protection (CCRP), Manipur has urged the government to take up "speedy legal actions to book and punish those culprits who had trafficked 19 children at Chennai and 52 children at Keinyakuari from the state", in a memorandum submitted to state, Social Welfare minister N Loken.
CCRP also urged the government to declare a comprehensive "State Policy for Children".
To provide care and protection of children affected by conflict, organized violence and children living with HIV/AIDS in the state in the forthcoming Assembly session, constitute "State Commission for Protection of Children".
Among other things, the memorandum also called for opening of girl children's homes, more shelter homes and after care organizations, it also urged the government to functionalize the existing observation homes in the state, implement the "Integrated Child Protection Scheme", raise and make operational a Juvenile justice Fund of the state under Juvenile Justice Act 2000 and provide financial support to extremely deprived children.
