Imphal, February 12, 2010:
Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) has warned the state government that the youth council will launch agitation if government fails posting of shortage employees in healthcare centres in Ukhrul district specially in healthcare sectors.
If the vacant seats/staff of the offices in the district are not filled latest by February 28 next, TMNL will be compelled to launch agitations for which the government authority will solely be held responsible, a statement of the TMNL signed by its president Zanyo Varam threatened.
Healthcare services in the primary health sub-centres (PHSCs), primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs) and the lone hospital of the district at Ukhrul district headquarters are in shock and pathetic conditions which cause various problems and grievances to the people of the district.
As per statistical data collected by the TMNL, only 26 out of total 32 sanctioned posts of are in service.
The office of the Chief Medical Office is functioning without the Chief Medical Officers and Medical Store Officer which are needed for smooth functioning of the healthcare sectors.
Its a surprising one, the body lamented.
Not only this, out of 10 sanctioned.posts of District Immunisation Officer (DIO), only seven are in service with no District Extension Officer and Statistical Inspector.
In the same manner, only nine district leprosy officers are posting out of 11 sanctioned posts while out of 19 sanctioned posts of District Malaria Officer, only 14 are posting.
The District TB Office also suffering from shortage of staff as only six officer strength are functioning against thee total strength of 10 posts.
In the same manner the district hospital is also running by only 75 staff against the total sanctioned posts of 116 staff.
What makes the hospital so despicable and unworthy is the fact that it is functioning with no medical superintendent, no OBS and gyneacologists, no orthopedics, no radiologist, no matron, only nursing sister instead of five, no medical record office, no steward, only 18 staff nurse inspite of 29, no medical record technician, no dresser and only 13 ward attendants inspite of 17 sanctioned, the statement observed.
Not ended with this all the PHSCs, PHCs and CHCs across the district are in pathetic states, the statement lamented while putting down detail existing staff posting in the centres.
In this situation, We would like to question the state governments lack a dasical attitude in the health sector.
We wonder wether these few overburdened doctors, nurses, staff etc.
were given double/triple salaries as against their normal salary.
The statement while crediting and appreciating to all the dedicated employees especially the over bordered staff of the district hospital, community health centres, PHCs and PHSCs for doing yeomen service towards humanity warned the state government to fill up the vacant posts within February 28 next.
If not, the body will be compelled to launch agitation.
