The Khongjom Day was also observed by various social and political parties in various parts of the state paying homage to the war heroes of yesteryear.
The Manipur People Party (MPP) observed the day at its office premises with floral tributes to the war heroes of 1891 Anglo-Manipuri War which marked the need of freedom of Manipur in the hand of invading mighty British soldiers.
Many leaders of the party took part in the observance function.
Speaking on the occasion, former president of MPP, O Joy said Manipuris were among the nations who lived independently except the defeat in the hand of the Awas (Burmese) during the seven year devastation and the invasion by the British in the last part of 18th century.
MPP took the day on which Manipur lost its independent in 1891 and have been observing the day since 1972 when the observance of the day at Kheba Hill was started by the party in power, he said.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee also observed the day at Congress Bhavan, BT Road commencing from the early morning, at 6 am.
President of the party, Gaikhangam, vice-president Dr Chaltonlien Amo and general secretary (administration), Vidyapati Senjam and leaders of fronts and cells took part in the offering of floral tributes to the war heroes of Khongjam War.
The All India Youth Federation, Lamlai Local Council and Environmental Rural, Eco Development Association jointly organised a blood donation camp to mark the occasion at Irabot Memorial Hall at Lamlai Chalou.
State health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat graced the observance function as chief guest.
The day was also observed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh at its office in which leaders of the party and workers attended.
The Patriot Writers' Forum, Manipur also organised a function to commemorate the day at its office at Keishampat.
The Character Building and Moral Education Centre (CBMEC) also observed the day at its office at Kongpal Iranpham Leikai.
On the occasion, a three day spiritual training programme also opened.
