Imphal, April 23 2010:
Commemorating its 60 years of settlement in the valley, Hongmahn village located under Saikul block celebrated its diamond jubilee today.
Speaking as chief guest at the diamond celebration held at Hongmahn village community hall under the theme "Let's rise up and build", MLA Doukhomang Khongsai noted that tiny Saikul area is one area most disturbed and plagued with a multitude of problems in the small state of Manipur.
Underscoring the importance of mutual love and compassion in a human society, Doukhomang said that it is only natural for men to fight or quarrel once or twice if they are living together.
Paying obeisance to the martyrs who laid down their lives in the Battle of Khongjom for the sake of Manipur's integrity, Doukhomang called upon all to give up all mistrust and hatred but to stand united on a common platform in order to bring peace, harmony and development in Manipur.
Hongmahn villagers who belong to Tangkhul tribe are a minority in Saikul block.
Nevertheless, he lauded the group as being more refined in culture and compassionate in nature.
He assured the villagers that a sum of Rs 50,000 would be provided to the village from his MLA Local Area Development Fund to improve condition of the approach road leading to the village.
The celebration culminated with a joint feast.
