In commemoration of the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution, the Manipuri Language Day was observed today at different places.
AMSU observed the day at its head office with Prof Ch Manihar as chief guest and AMSU president Irengbam Jamesbond Mangang as functional president.
Jamesbond recalled that the Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992 after a prolonged struggle by the people starting from 1978 .
Observing that the future of Manipuri language is still not secure, Jamesbond noted that Manipuri language, despite being a scheduled language is yet to gets its rightful place.
To take Manipuri language to its rightful position, AMSU would put in all efforts.
Language Day was also observed by the Manipuri Language Development Society, Imphal at Manipur Press Club.
The function was graced by Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam, retired Principal of DM College of Commerce Dr O Kumar, retired Judge L Rabindra, Department of Linguistics, MU Associate Professor Dr L Pramodini as presidium members.
Three books authored by retired Prof MS Ningomba which were re titled Wahei Kanglon, Yektam Padam Lairik and Padam Lairik were also released on the occasion.
