Suspected activists of KCP Moramba group today exploded a hand grenade at the residence of a government official at Nongmeibung Chakpram Leirak in Imphal east district.
No casualties were reported, police as well as local sources said.
The hand grenade exploded at the house of Managing Director of Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Wahengbam Nilamani around 3.25 am.
The explosion damaged three vehicles belonging to the director.
Local sources said that the bomb exploded while the director was inside the bathroom preparing for a morning walk.
In the explosion, a Maruti Gypsy bearing registration no.MN1A-2616 allotted to the director and a Maruti car (MN1A-5885) and a Maruti Alto car (MN06L-2552 were damaged by bomb splinters.
A private temple and front portions of the house and other structures in the side courtyard of the house were also damaged the blast.
Later Nilamani told that an underground outfit had demanded money from him in connection with the implementation of a project by the department.
He had explained that the funds were not directly released to the Directorate he is looking after.
Decrying the act and alleging that the blast had caused panic to the people of the area, womenfolk of the area staged a sit-in protest at Nambam Chuthek Bazar.
