Imphal, August 20 2010:
Unidentified persons hurled and exploded a hand grenade at the residence of the Managing Director of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited at Nongmeibung Chakpram Leikai this morning.
The grenade exploded at the courtyard of Managing Director Wahengbam Nilamani and it damaged a Gypsy parked there.
However, there was no human casualty, said a police source.
Meanwhile, local women staged a protest demonstration against the grenade attack at Nongmeibung Bazar today.
It was reported that a monetary demand was served to Nilamani's office about a month back by a UG group.
On the other hand, another protest demonstration was staged at Kongpal Thongkhong against the reported threats by PULF.
A press release issued by PULF publicity secretary PM Akbar and published on August 19 alleged that Mutum Biren (49) of Kongpal Kshetri Leikai was connected with the UNLF and that he derided PULF.
Clarifying the allegation, Biren said that he was an innocent civilian earning his livelihood by running a grocery.
He categorically stated that he had no idea about the allegations made by PULF.
In another incident, unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of a sub-contractor at Yairipok Top Chingtha under Thoubal police station on August 17 .
According to police, the miscreants attacked on the residence of Khoirom Tondon (42) at around 10:30 pm last night.
Police retrieved the unexploded bomb yesterday morning.
