Imphal, August 20 2010:
Security forces engaged in a gunfight with undergrounds at Singkao village under Sapermaina police station of Senapati district tonight even as four activists were nabbed by the police commandos in separate operations in the last two days.
The gun clash between the security force and underground cadres at Singkao village was erupted at about 7.30 pm.
Fear over hearing the gun firing sounds, villagers remained indoor, a report received here said.
The clash erupted when security forces entered to the area based on the information of presence of some underground activists in the area.
Undergrounds opened fire when the security force reached the area in which they retaliated resulting to a brief exchange of fire.
Any casualty on both sides could not be confirmed till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, police commandos apprehended four activists including two UNLF cadres during counter insurgency operations in the last two days, police sources said.
One of the UNLF cadres identified as Leishangthem Nanao alias Sushil alias Surchand alias Maikellepa (30) son of late Udoi of Tera Sapam Leikai who is working under Self Style Sergeant Major Khomei of the outfit was apprehended by a team of the Imphal west police commandos yesterday, at about 3 pm.
He was apprehended from Tera Bazar while he was moving on a Honda Activa, a statement of the Imphal west senior SP, L Kailun said.
The other UNLF cadre identified as Sarangthem Prembabu @ Babu (34) son of S Dolendro of Thambalkhong Lisam Leirak was apprehended by a team of Imphal east police commandos yesterday morning, at about 6 am from Thambalkhong area, said a statement of the SP, Imphal east, Th Radheshyam said today.
Thoubal police commandos also nabbed two activists of KCP identified as Thokchom Jiten (25) son of Th Tunal of Khangabok Lamlong Bazar and Thokchom Abung (26) son of Th Subol of Khangabok Lamlong Bazar from Khangabok Lamlong Bazar today morning, at about 3 am, another statement of the senior SP, Thoubal SP, Clay Khongsai said.
