Imphal, November 25 2010:
The person who was killed by Assam Rifles at Tuitam Khongkhai in Chandel district a few days back was A-2683 Corporal Naoboy, real name Longjam Umakanta Meitei(21), son of L Yaimachou Meitei and L (O) Baruni Devi, of Wangoo Sandangkhong Awang Leikai, 252 Mobile Battalion, PLA, informed GM Changjou, Chief, Department of Publicity, RPF today.
In a press release, Changjou said, Naoboy had approached AR along with one M-16, five magazines, 150 bullets and one grenade around a little over 4.30 am on November 19.He was a renegade who was executed by the AR after he had been taken in their custody.
There was no incident of encounter between AR and PLA on that day.
Changjou refuted the number of arms and ammuntion mentioned in the statement of AR issued to the media.
What the AR said was less than the real numbers.
The remaining arms and ammuntion could be used in killing innocent persons or revolutionaries in their custody, the RPF's press release cautioned.
It said, the slain person had already been declared as a deserter in Information No.A6-2/37/2010 Dt 22-11-2010 issued by the GHQ before he was killed by the AR.
Therefore, the PLA has no connection whatsoever with him, the press release asserted.
