Imphal, November 25 2010:
Manipuris in Mizoram are planning to construct a Manipur Bhavan in Aizawl.
A team of journalists who toured the state recently came to know of the plan for construction of the Bhavan.
According to the Manipuris, there are about 3000 and most of them are serving in different departments of Mizoram government.
Very few of them are engaged in tailoring, business and as teachers in private schools.
Manipuris in the state has been pressing the Mizoram government for the construction of the Bhavan but the authority seems to be taking no interest into the matter.
But recently the government gave a green signal for the construction of the same and plans are aloof to construct the bhavan within the capital of the state.
Manipuris in Mizoram have been leading a peaceful life for the last 30 years and have maintained a close ties with the Mizos in the spirit of peaceful co-existence.
However, in this year in October Mizoram government conducted a drive against those Manipuris staying in the state without Inner Line Permit.
Around 80 Manipuris were picked up by the police in that drive.
The instance had hurt the sentiments of the Manipuris there and they had expressed unhappiness to the drive against Manipuris.
As a policy of the state, Mizoram government does not give any facility to outsiders to live in the state.
However, man married to a Mizo woman can stay there as they have a custom of a man settling at the house of his wife.
The journalist team of the state visited Mizoram as part of State Planning Department conducted DIPR organised tour.
