Imphal, September 20, 2009:
The outlawed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has denied having link with the arrested AMUCO and CCDD members including publicity secretary of AMUCO Likmabam Tompok (50), Thiyam Dinesh (39), Irom Brojen (40), Chungsel Koireng (39), Amom Soken (41), Taorem Ramananda (50), Samjetsabam Nando (48), and Yumnam Jiten (32), as charged by the police claiming that they were apprehended based on information that they were holding a meeting with the RPF/PLA according to new reports which appeared on September 14. Telling the Manipur police to shun their habit of embellishing things, a statement issued by chief of the department of publicity, RPF, GM Changjou termed the police charges as baseless and fabricated.
It stated that the police' attempt to link them with the RPF/PLA in the charge--sheet is unfortunate while adding that it is a policy of the Manipur Police to cause a major hitch in the working of civil society organisations.
Noting that Manipur is a tiny state where the deed of one is known to the others, it asserted that all civil society organisations in the state have been working in collaboration with one another according to circumstances.
It has also been seen that there is also divergence of views among the civil society organisations.
Some oppose the deeds of the others and vice versa.
It was also felt that the same may happen in the case of July 23 fake encounter incident.
This could be due to the miniaturisation of the state and due to the presence of various ethnic groups in the state or it could be due to the divide and rule policy played by India.
This disunity of the people has been shown since long.
This unwanted practice was kept aside in the July 23 Khwairamband incident.
The agitations were launched in unison by various civil society organisations, students' bodies, Meira Paibees, and various JACs.
In order to suppress the agitations, the Manipur Police have resorted to apprehend leaders of several civil society organisations and detained them under NSA and committed various acts of human rights violations.
It is pertinent to ask the connotation in linking the social leaders with the RPF/PLA by the Manipur police.
The RPF statement pointed out that the allegation of the police that the leaders of civil society organisations having link with the outfit is ridiculous - which nobody will believe and will be seen as scornful, and accepted as illogical.
Saying that this is a deception to the people of the state, it asserted that it is a major offence of the Manipur police.
The police are trying to level baseless charges against the people.
This has been done to appease the Central leaders in order to prepare a fake report.
Calling the Manipur police to do whatever they like in order to protect the law and order - whether they nab innocents, or kill them, the statement said that they will reap the fruits of what they done.
But, the outfit strongly condemns the association of the RPF/PLA, which is not related with them at all.
It urged the police to restraint from doing the same in future.
The outfit would not remain a silent spectator in the recurrence of such happenings, which can disadvantage the higher ups of the Manipur police.
