MLAs' intervention in the selection and distribution of Old Age Pension have disappointed the panchayat who said that after giving 30 percent quota to the MLAs, now they have taken cent percent of quota of selection of beneficiaries.
Pradhans and members of the gram panchayat taking part at a function held in connection with the distribution pension amounts to the old age pensioners at the house of AK Meerabai, vice president, MPCC at Toubungkhok said that earlier selection and distribution of old age pensions under the Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme was implemented through the gram panchayats but now since MLAs were given 30 percent quota in the selection of beneficiaries, now they had taken all the power to select the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion AK Meerabai who graced the function as chief guest said, the Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension scheme at helping the old aged people with love and sympathy towards them.
There are so many elderly people who could be beneficiaries of the scheme but due to intervention by the MLAs, all could not be given the benefit.
But she assured of inclusion of those left out people in the next phase as far as possible.
The function mainly organized for distribution of the pension was also attended by president of the Patsoi Block Congress Committee, L Kumar, vice president RK Angousana, pradhan of Langjing Achouba Gram Panchayat, Ch Sumanta and Changangei Gram Panchayat, L Loitang.
Another old aged pension distribution function was also organized by the Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency Development Forum where pension amounts were distributed to 253 old aged people.
The function held at the Ibuthou Naothingkhong Pakhangba Shanglen, councilor of ward no.25 Thambaljao graced as chief guest.
President of the organizing body, N Binoy presided over the function.
