Villagers of Langdum Soibung village today staged a sit-in protest alleging irregularities in the distribution of the AAY, BPL rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS) by the agents.
The protest staged at the local market at Langdum Soibung village was organized by the Langdum Samaj Shudra Dal Youth club jointly with Women Welfare Association, Langdum commenced from 11 am till 2 pm.
Secretary, Women Welfare Association, Hidam Thabalei said even though under AAY and BPL are to get 35 kg each of rice per months and four litre of Kerosene oil per months, card holders of the village were getting only 10 kg of rice and no kerosene.
Above this, even though rice is to distribute at the rate of Rs 3.75 per kg and Rs 9 per litre of kerosene, agents sold it at Rs 10 per kg and Rs 14 respectively, she said.
When they inquired on the matter of distribution in less quantity, agents informed them that it was due to non-supply of required quantity of the items by the local MLA Md Allauddin, minister MOBC and his nominees, Thabalei said.
They will lodge complaint with the deputy commissioner on the matter with a request to look into the matter and ensure getting exact quantity which is to be given under the guidelines of the PDS, she added.
The protestors also expressed denounced to the security force killing people after carry in their place.
The incident has caused panic to the villagers, they said.
Stating that if the security force continues killing people after carrying them there, people will launch agitations against the act, they warned.
