Imphal, September 28 2010:
Chairman of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Toijam Achouba (Achou Toijamba) expired yesterday after undergoing treatment for sometime.
He was suffering from lung cancer.
For the KYKL, the departed leader was a guiding light.
He was born on February 9, 1942 .
"He was a teacher to all the living cadres of KYKL who taught us revolutionary principles directly or indirectly", the outfit said in a press release issued by its publicity and research secretary Lanngamba Mangang.
Achou Toijamba's life was closely associated with people's movements from a very young age.
He grew up as a student leader and succeeded in infusing a sense of nationalism to the student community.
In the next phase, he became a youth leader and took active role in nationalist movements of which youngsters were the main protagonists.
He was also a pioneer in building up identity politics besides being a principal figure in the movement of cultural revivalism.
In later phases, he joined the armed revolutionary movement.
Achou Toijamba was one leader who worked relentlessly for the people of Manipur from a very young age till the last breath.
The expiry of Achou Toijamba has left KYKL an orphan, said the outfit.
The foremost doctrine espoused by the late Chairman with regard to the revolutionary movement was 'unification'.
Even in his dying moments, he continued to preach for unification.
His last words of advice were "We are not sacrificing enough to bring unification.
This is not correct.
Though his doctrine sounds simple, the KYKL believes his doctrine would be the backbone of the nation's revolutionary movement", Lanngamba said.
Saying that the outfit's central committee has decided to mourn the Chairman's expiry for a week starting from September 30, it informed all its cadres to fly party flags at half mast during the week in all centres, units, camps and branch offices of the party.
No form of entertainment programmes or joint feast should be organised in all these places throughout the week.
The late leader was 68.He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter and a group dedicated to his principles, added the release.
