The Government has decided to merge together Government colleges which have few students for development of infrastructures properly, Education Minister has informed.
The Minister said that the Government would be identifying the colleges which have few students and merged them together into two or three so that the required infrastructures could be taken care of properly.
The Minister pointed out that since the Ideal Girls' College at Akampat has been included in the proposed merger, the Government has taken up steps for the development of the infrastructures of the Women Polytechnic already existing there.
The Government is also considering withdrawal of the degree course on Physical Education from DM College and brought it under some other institutions, the Minister disclosed.
He further informed that acquisition of land for development of a permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) which is currently being functioned from the complex of Government Polytechnics at Takyelpat has been completed.
After necessary compensation have been given to the land-owers, the acquired land would be handed over to NIT.
Around one and half years is expected to take in the development of the NIT campus, the Minister said, adding that NIT which commenced its maiden session from August this year has been set up with the Government of Manipur providing necessary land, power and water supply, security and other required infrastructures.
The facilities being provided to NIT would be upgraded from time to time, the Minister assured.
