Lamka, September 28 2010:
A stand-off over the expulsion of eleven students from St.
Mary's High School here in the first week this month for alleghed misconduct has snowballed into a major show down with the District Private Schools' Association announcing an indefinite closure of all their schools from tomorrow in protest against the CDSU's intervention.
The Churachandpur District Students' Union had yesterday called an explanation from CDPSA, the private schools' body, after the latter had on Saturday issued a press statement alleging the student body of exerting unwarranted pressure upon St.
Mary's High School to take all the expelled students back.
'While celebrating Teachers Day on September 3 at St Mary's High School, Tuibuong, eleven students indulged in drinking and also disturbed the Teacher's Day celebration at Dr Radhakrishna Foundation School, Tuibuong as a result of which they were expelled by the school,' wrote the CDPSA statement that justified the expulsion as the discretionary power of the school.
They had accordingly requested the CDSU to retract its stand on the issue and forewarned indefinitely closure of all member schools in the event failing to do so by noon
of September 28 (today).
The CDSU's reaction to the CDPSA deadline by calling an explanation comes with an argument that it is a neutral body, a common platform of tribe-based student bodies that always strives for the welfare of the students in particular and that of the society in general, having no political bosses to please nor directive from any high command to follow strictly.
As both the parties eluded each other's call for 'withdrawal' as well as 'explanation', standoff has ensued.
