An year long programme for the celebration of golden jubilee of Maram Students' Union kicked off today at Raishung ground, Maram Bazar in Senapati district with MLA K Raina as chief guest.
The golden jubilee of the union will be held next year.
The function was presided over by P Celestine and RK Peter graced as guest of honour.
The chief guest lighted the celebration torch to declare open the year long celebration programme which would be marked by series of football tournamens participated by 21 male football team.
Women volleyball tournament will also be the part of the year long programme.
Speaking as chief guest MLA K Raina said that Maram is a village which has got the blessing of almighty as NH-39, the lifeline of entire populace of the state is passing through the village.
The village has premier schools and college etc.making it a favourable education centre.

However, he said that the Maram tribe is yet to make advance in the field of development like the other tribes and communities.
He is concerned on this matter, Raina added and appealed to the youths to take oath to work hard so that the tribe can also be a part in the race of development.
Exploring great role of the students in bringing about development, they should not be angry when there are mistakes in government policies instead point out those mistakes with constructive criticism.
Any violent incident should not be allowed to occur in Senapati district.
People of the district should try their best not to repeat any untoward incidents in the district and peace be given a chance to bring development in the district.
RK Peter who graced the function as chief guest of the function expressed happiness when many officers of high ranking come up among the Maram students stating that before 1960 there was little students in the area.
In Maram village there were many MCS officers, engineers, doctors serving in the departments of the state government apart from many officers serving in the Central sectors.
They are giving light to the new generation, he said.
Performance of cultural dances with traditional attire and a friendly match played between Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) and Maram Students' Union (MSU) marked the opening function.
The tournament will continue till January 15 .
