First representative to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Chandel district Ng Mono Monsang passed away on January 6 last at the age of 85.The funeral rite of the deceased was held today at his native village at Liwa Changning.
The most optimistic personality of the Monsang tribe died on January 6 last at about 9 am at his native village Liwa Changning.
The last rite ceremony held today was attended by former MLA, BD Behring, president of the Naga People Organisation, ST Nundhlung, president of Naga Council Samson Rimei, OSD of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Th Oliver Monsang, principal of United College, Chandel, BD Thumdal and president of Anal Tribal Union, Ts Warngam.
Monsang who was born to late Ng Beti and Ts Tinu in 1914 is survived by his wife Noni Jasah, four sons and a daughter.
He got his primary education at Kangpokpi under Rev William Pettigrew and completed his high school at Jorhat Mission High School, Assam in 1942 .
Because of the outbreak of World War II and Civilian Movement, he could not attain college.
Ng Mono was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1948 from Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency which covered the whole Chandel district at that time.
Recognition of Monsang as one of the schedule tribes of the state in 1953 was under his able leadership.
