With the coming of National Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes, NREGS,l in the most back ward district of Manipur, people living in the district began to smile as many poor villagers even widows/widowers able to earn and vehicles can penetrate the thick jungle to their village.
By using the funds many villages had constructed jeepable roads from foot path and broaden other roads to allow passage of even road to truck in the inter village road (IVR).
Longdi Pabram of Tamenglong block is one among are where vehicles can go into the interior of the villages.
While inspecting the NREGS at Longdi Pabram village today, it is learnt that this village had constructed 4.5 kilometres of jeeable road in so as to enable vehicles to go into the village.
However, the village did not success as they needed more skilled labours.
Under MC (NREGS) the village had constructed two retaining walls, water tank and two culverts in the village.
Many villages of Tamenglong district have reduced the sizes of the jhuming fields and some people abandon the jhuming cultivation too.
Apart from getting the wages, the scheme is benefiting the people by allowing passage of vehicles in the remote villages, improving roads and other terrace field or farm.
While touring to the remote villages, C Arthur W IAS, SDO Tamenglong and his officers interacted with t he village Chairman and Secretary, assistant teacher and ASHA worker in the village.
However, the official could not inspect all the developments works at Longdi Pabram village due to shortage of time.
The team inquired about the BRGF, MSDP, IAY, Anganwadi centre and other development works taken up by the government and district administrative.
While talking to media person Athanbou, Chairman of Longdipabram village authority said that the place produces all natural products, vegetables and other citrus fruits in good quantity but due to lack of road we are unable to reach market place to sell.
He also said that when a person gets sick and if he has to go to district hospital, the youth or relatives have to carry the sick person resulting in untold suffering to the people, he said.
