Imphal, January 15 2010:
Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer in Manipur.
This is recorded in the Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) conducted and maintained by the Pathology Department of RIMS.
Principal Investigator and RIMS Medical Superintendent Dr Y Mohen said that their investigation focused more on different types of cancer infecting body parts between lung and throat.
Even as smoking in public places has been banned in other States of India, there is no such effective prohibition in Manipur.
Dr Mohen said that there is no way of preventing lung cancer other than banning smoking.
Other forms of cancer like breast cancer can be prevented to some extent by creating awareness among the people, he added.
