Imphal, January 15 2010:
State Chief Minister, O Ibobi today appealed to all concern not to give any hindrance to the total sanitation programmes while speaking at the function organised in connection with the distribution of Nirmal Gram Puruskar Award by the communication and Capacity Unit of the state Public Health Engineering Department today at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
The Chief Minister also lauded the Utlou Gram Panchayat of Bishnupur district on receiving the Nirmal Gram Puruskar in recognition for the successful implementation of total sanitation programme in collaboration with PHED.

The total sanitation programme being implemented in the state is one of the flagship programmes of the Union government targeting to sanitize villages and ensure providing safe drinking water, Chief Minister, Ibobi informed.
The total sanitation programme has a target of sanitizing all schools and anganwadi centres of the country by 2005 by constructing low cost latrines.
The same programme has been extended further and is targeted to cover families of APL and BPL by 2012 .
Due to bad sanitation system various diseases are being spread and have claimed life of thousands.
That is why state government took the programme seriously and targeted to construct low cost latrines for every households below the poverty line in both villages and towns, the chief minister added and appealed to all not to disturb the programme.
Utlou Gram Panchayat has done a laudable job of replacing all the open latrine by low cost latrines under the programme.
Like the every household in the GP, all households in the state will be covered by the programme to achieve the goal of the flagship programme, said the Chief Minister.
He also assured of releasing all the funds sanctioned for the programme without any delay.
In Sikkim, the programme has been successfully implemented and achieved the goal too.
It was due to non-disturbance in the implementation of the programme from any side and the co operation of the people.
Likewise, in the state too, people of the state should join hand to achieve the goal, the chief minister said reiterating his appeal not to disturb in the implementation of the programme.
On the occasion, Chief Minister handed over the award to the pradhan of the Utlou Gram Panchayat, Laishram Rishikanta.
The award consisted of a chaque amount of Rs 2 lakh.
The Chief Minister also had words of encouragement for the engineers of the Bishnupur district PHED office.
The chief minister also handed over an amount of Rs 1 lakh to the pradhan of the Maklang Gram Panchayat, the recipient of same award in 2008.The amount of the award is differing with the GP to GP as it based on the population covered by the GP.
It ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh.
