Even as the State Government has made necessary preparation in connection with the proposed day-long visit of UPA chairperson and AICC president Sonia Gandhi to Manipur on November 12, the SPG team which arrived as an advance security team of Sonia Gandhi today conducted an aerial survey of the places where she would be visiting.
According to a reliable source, along with an aerial survey of the places which are included in the itinerary of Sonia Gandhi, the SPG team conducted a trial run of Sonia's proposed visits to these places today.
It is said that the flight carrying Sonia Gandhi would touch down at Tulihal Airport at 11 am on November 12.From the airport, she would be directly flown to Churachandpur in a special helicopter to inaugurate the Khuga Multipurpose Project there.
From Churachandpur, Sonia Gandhi would be flown back to Kangla from where she would proceed to BT Park to pay homage and lay floral tributes at the Sahid Minar.
After this, she would go to the nearby Congress Bhavan to inaugurate a newly constructed annexe building and unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
Later on, she will head for Khwairamband Bazar to inaugurate the newly constructed three market sheds and dedicate the same to the people.
Inauguration of the annexe building of Congress Bhavan and unveiling of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi would be done in her capacity as the president of AICC while inauguration or laying the foundation stones of other projects would be done as UPA chairperson, sources disclosed.
The earlier preparation made by the State Government for Sonia Gandhi to address a public meeting at Mapal Kangjeibung has been cancelled after the SPG team pointed out that the openness of the place may not be advisable from security point of view apart from location of high rise buildings around Mapal Kangjeibung.
Subsequently, the Government has made new preparation inside Kangla for Sonia Gandhi to address the public.
Meanwhile, continuing with its beautification works of Imphal city ahead of Sonia Gandhi's visit, the State Government has put up flags of the Congress party all over the city.
Security measures in the capital city has also been stepped up.
