A high level meeting chaired by chief secretary DS Poonia was convened today to review the security arrangement taken up in connection with Sonia's visit.
The meeting reportedly decided to make three stage security arrangements for the security of the VVIP and police have been asked to intensify with immediate effect the frisking and checking in and around the sites where Sonia is to tour during her brief four hour visit to Manipur.
With regard to the visit of Sonia Gandhi, a meeting of the Chief Minister and MPCC president Gaikhangam was held at the Chief Minister's bungalow today.
The meeting reportedly discussed the arrangement from the party's side to receive the visiting supremo at Imphal airport on arrival.
The meeting also decided to hand over the responsibility of ensuring people's participation in the public meeting which Sonia Gandhi is to address to party MLAs.
Party leaders feel wary of a poor turnout after many civil organisations announced a boycott of the visit by calling a general strike.
Meanwhile, decorating the streets which Sonia Gandhi is expected to cover is underway on a war footing.
Fully grown marigold plants were planted on the road medians of the streets where Sonia Gandhi is to travel.
Congress flags were also erected on the streets.
