Chingjak Fest starts, set to tickle palates

The third Manipur Chingjak Festival has started from today with Tourism Minister TN Haokip inaugurating the week long indigenous food fair at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.
MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom and Managing Director of Manipur Film Development Corporation K Sobita Devi were also present at the occasion as the president and guest of honour.
Over 300 dishes of indigenous food ranging from vegetable product to non-veg are being put on display/sale at the seven day festival where there are a total of 50 stalls.
highlighting that Manipur is a place where there is vast difference in food habit owing to the presence of various tribes/communities, TN Haokip opined that apart from such an annual event which is able to invigorate the taste-buds there is equal need for preservation of tasty and indigenous fish varieties such as Pengba, Ngakra and Ngaton.

He also stressed that in addition to consumption by the local population, efforts should be made for promotion of indigenous food items through export by maintaining hygiene of the highest order and packaging them attractively.
The festival being organised by innovative Youth Development Association with support of Manipur AIDS Control Society have stalls representing foods of various communities from most of the districts of Manipur.
