Imphal, November 10 2010:
With its demand for allotment of atleast 200 seats in one of the three newly constructed double-storey market complexes at Khwairamband Keithel failing to evoke positive response from the Government, the Kabui Mothers' Association (KMA) has declared to go ahead with the general strike to protest the snub.
The KMA today announced its decision to impose a 10 hour general strike on November 12, the day Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance Government in the Centre Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to arrive and inaugurate the market complexes at the historic location.

Mention may be made that 12 other NGOs have already declared a 15 hour general strike on the same day in denunciation of Government of India's silence with regard to whereabouts of UNLF chairman RK Meghen alias Sanayaima, who was reportedly arrested in Bangladesh capital more than a month back.
Speaking to newspersons today in connection with the general strike call, KMA president Kakom Lunglu reiterated that on October 25 KMA submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh with a proposal to reserve 200 seats (vendors) exclusively for Kabui women within the three market complexes.
She also recounted that after receiving an invitation two days later a KMA delegation called on the CM during which discussions were held on the said issue but consensus eluded the joint meeting.
Even as a peaceful sit-in-demonstration against the Government's alleged insensitivity to the proposal failed to yield the desired consequences the KMA decided to go ahead with its earlier declaration for imposing the general strike, Kakom Lunglu asserted.
Conveying that the general strike remain effective from 6 am till 4pm of November 12, the KMA leader also appealed for cooperation from all concerned.
