Tension high at Mantripukhri after firing

High tension prevailed at Mantripukhri area tonight as confrontation ensued between the locals and security escorts of a former MLA after the latter resorted to blank firing in trying to free a 'captive' escort.
As per information culled from the spot of incident, a security team on a two vehicles including a Maruti Gypsy with beacon light arrived at a pan dukan in Mantripukhri this evening to 'allegedly' settle a score with some locals, who had beaten up one suspected security personnel on November
6 evening.
Apart from pulling up two youths from the said pan dukan, the security personnel reportedly assigned to the MLA, residing at the same area, fired about 20 rounds in the air to disperse a mob that had gathered to oppose the arrest.
Even though the incident passed off without any major incident tension existed at the area till the time of filing of this report.
Heingang police have registerd a case on the matter.
Locals contended that security personnel, particularly VIP escorts had been tormenting local resident for the past many months with some threatening 'extermination' of non-locals'.
State police teams were on the spot to prevent the situation going out of hand.
