Imphal, December 20:
Reigning champions Tiddim Road Athletic Union (Trau) suffered a humiliating 1-3 defeat to former champions Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) in a quarter final league match of the 49th All India CC meet invitation football tournament at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
The Group X tie between the two sides, which was the quarter final round opener saw the police side dominating the first half and racing to a commanding 2-0 before the half hour mark.
Virtually laying siege at the opponent citadel from the very first whistle, I Nilakumar made the intention of the police side clear with a rasping drive minutes into the game which was cleared from the line by Trau defender K Duidang with a header.
The initial resistance put up by the defending champion's defenders subsequently caved in under tremendous pressure from the MPSC forwards spearheaded by Nilakumar.
Nilakumar, who also figured among the police goals, paved the way for the team's opening score when he essayed a headed pass for Th Rohen to break the deadlock in the 24th minute.
Hardly three minutes from taking the lead a power-packed drive from Kh Bonamali ricochetted off N Thoi Singh in the Trau goal.
The rebound was pounced by Kh Sanaton whose well placed angular shot gave no chance to the stranded opponent custodian.
TRAU, despite bridging the gap through T Shyamo's header in the 59th minute failed on capitalise on 10-men MPSC after K Premkumar was given the marching order in the 67th minute for consecutive fouls in the match.
