Imphal, December 20:
Tamenglong villagers have fled their homesteads following the break out of gun-battle between the rival factions of the NSCN, reports NNN.
According to the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM), the factional clashes between the two rival factions of the NSCN occurred yesterday in the afternoon at Makhom part-1 village under Tamenglong district after which the villagers fled their homesteads and now they are taking shelter in the nearby villages.
ZSUM information and publicity secretary Majabung Gangmei informed Newmai News Network this evening that the gun-battle between the cadres of the NSCN-K and the NSCN-IM occurred at around 2.30 pm on Monday near the football ground of Makhom village part-one (Marangjin).
The number of casualties, if any, are however yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur and the Makhom (Marangjin) Village Authority have appealed to all underground organisations not to carry out such clashes in the villages.
The two organisations further said that the festive season of the Christmas and the New Year is round the corner and such clashes would spoil the celebration mood of the people.
Hit and run : In a hit and run case, a 44-year old motor-cycle (Freedom) borne man, who was admitted to RIMS Hospital after being knocked down by a vehicle at Meitram Lamkhai under Nambol Police Station at around 5.30 pm yesterday, succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital.
