Kohima, December 20:
In what is seen as voicing the voice of the people or more aptly displaying the ire of the victimized BSNL subscribers more than 100 irate volunteers and officials of the Angami Students' Union (ASU), armed with daos (machetes), pickaxes and hammers, this afternoon stormed the office of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and locked up the office after the BSNL failed to ensure service to the people.
The ASU agitation came two days after expiry of its ultimatum issued on December 13 addressed to the Deputy General Manager of the BSNL in which it put forward three demands.
Armed with all sorts of tools including daos, the ASU volunteers stormed the office of the BSNL near the Local Ground (Khuociezie), ordered the customers to vacate the office and then locked the office.
Interacting with NNN this evening, ASU President, Medo Yhokha and Vice President, Sedeneikho Shosahie said the ASU had given an additional two-day period for the BSNL to address the issue but on failure on the BSNL's part to take initiative on the issue, the ASU went to the main office of the BSNL with the intention to meet its officials and seek a clarification.
However, with the exception of a SDE (Internal), none of the officials were present and the staff had also fled on seeing the delegation of the ASU, the ASU officials disclosed.
Irate over the nonchalant attitude of the BSNL, the ASU volunteers then stormed the BSNL office near the Local Ground and locked it up after ordering out the staff and customers.
ASU, in its ultimatum addressed to the DGM, had put in three demands including to restore normal service and to compensate customers of Pre-Paid Cell One.
