With more and more students in Manipur opting Biological science, the number of students pursuing studies in Mathematics and Physics has started dwindling, according to the lecturers who took part in the Resource Persons training programme held in connection with the World Year of Physics, 2005 at Hotel Imphal here today.
The three-day long training programme which began today is being organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC).
Executive Director of MASTEC Th Surendranath presided over the inaugural function which was graced by four lecturers on the dais.
The four lecturers are Selection Grade Lecturer M Govinda of DM College of Science, N Robindro Singh of Birmangol College, Sawombung, Selection Grade lecturer Ch Rajendro Singh of Imphal College and Selection Grade Lecturer Md Abdul Gaffar of GP Women's College.
Speaking at the inaugural function, the resource persons observed that students in Manipur have started neglecting subjects like Mathematics and Physics and started taking keen interest on Biological science.
Thus, the number of students pursuing studies in Mathematics and Physics has dwindled.
Science with Mathematics and Physics is incomplete.
If the present generation of students lack interest on Mathematics and Physics, it would not auger well for the Manipuri society in future, they expressed apprehension, while emphasised on taking up necessary measures to instil interest on Mathematics and Physics among the students while there is time.
Around 24 students from various schools and colleges are participating in the training programme which began from today.
Scholarship: On the basis of the test conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur on the Mathematics of class IX, Preliminary, Main and viva voce for KL Govinl Memorial Schlarships, 2006-07, six students have been selected for award of scholarships.
The names of th students are Ritesh Thounaujam of St Joseph School Imphal, Ksh Diana Devi, Ksh Nirupama Devi, N Ranju Devi, all students of PR English School, Kakching and Kh Jayenta Singh and K Dayananda Singh, both students of KM Blooming School, Khangabok, according to a BSEM notification.
