Imphal, June 25: The UNLF has today categorically stated that Angom Malemkhomba alias Ranjit of CCpur Leimaram Leikai and Heisnam Heisnamba alias Iboyaima of Thanga Heisnam Leikai, who were killed in an encounter at Lamdeng Chingjin on June 19 were not members of the outfit as they had deserted the group on June 13, this year.

As the UNLF had already struck off their names from the cadres list, they cannot be termed as members of the outfit, said UNLF in a statement.

On the report that con man Nongdrenkhomba was a member of the UNLF, the outfit said that he had come for basic military training in February 2000 but was turned down due to his poor health.

The statement explained that as information that the fraud was collecting money from the public in the name of the UNLF reached the outfit, efforts were taken up to haul him up but he was arrested by 33 Assam Rifles in June 2002 at Lokchao in Moreh.

After his release he disappeared along with his wife and resurfaced only when he was arrested in Himachal Pradesh, said the statement.
