Imphal, June 25:
Referring to the news report of alleged corrupt practice of MOBC Minister Abdul Salam while selecting the beneficiaries under the Economic Development Programme, All Manipur Students' union, Lilong branch and Mohammedan Sporting Association, Lilong heinou Makhong have demanded immediate resignation of the Minister on moral ground.
The Minister had however denied any favoritism in selecting the beneficiaries.
Lamenting that the special package provided by the Centre to uplift the lot of the Muslim community has been siphoned off by the MOBC Minister through biased selection, the AMSU branch questioned on what ground were the beneficiaries selected for different trades.
Casting aspersions on the selection process, the student body said that palm greasing cannot be ruled out in the selection process and demanded a clarification on when notices for application of the grant were issued and when the selection was conducted.
Rather than solving the problems faced by the minority community, creation of MOBC has led to those in positions of power to fatten their purse, decried AMSU.
