With the primary objective of bringing all the socialist forces together, a socialist front convention was held at Wangkhei today.
Leaders and workers of three socialist (minded) political parties, namely Janata Dal (Secular), Janata Dal (United) and Janata Party joined in the convention.
During the convention, ex-MP W Kullabidhu of JD (S) and Laishram Ibochouba and Leitongbam Iboyaima who represented JD (U) and Janata Party respectively deliberated at length on issue pertaining to raise of socialist power in the global scenario as well as on the prose and cons of socialist movement in India since pre and post independent era.
Later speaking to media persons, Kullabidhu said that since there has been interest towards amalgamation of all socialist parties as one single political party at the National level �we are also following the trend� and have accordingly organized the convention.
Many States of the country have already held such convention, he said, adding that the resolutions would be passed to iron out any difference among the parties to kick start the amalgamation process in Manipur too.
On the performance of the ruling Congress led SPF Government, Kullabidhu said stated that his party do not want the policy of the Government although it is giving support to the Government indirectly.
Pointing out that unemployment is one of the major factor for existence of unemployment problem in Manipur, Kullabidhu observed that the Government should always keep its main priority on solving unemployment problems.
He also lambasted the Government for not taken up any concrete development works.
Coming back to rise of socialist movement in India, Kullabidhu noted that Acharya Narendra Dev, Jayaprakash Narayan, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and their Congress Socialist Party (CSP) colleagues initiated an Indian brand of socialism since 1934.Thereafter, the Socialist Party was born in 1948 and the Praja Socialist Party in 1953, he said, adding that a series of splits and reunions followed in the following decades.
He further said that during 1973-74, the Government of India under the Prime Ministership of India Gandhi adopted extremely fascist measures and declared emergency suspending Constitution and rule of law.
