Imphal, August 06: Alert police personnel foiled the attempt made by activists of Zomi Students Federation (ZSF) to set on fire the office of the Churachandpur District Employment Exchange at around 1.30 pm today.

The student body has been demanding posting of adequate staff in the Government offices of Churachandpur district.

According to reports, the agitating members of ZSF descended on the Employment Exchange Office at around 1.30 pm and started pouring kerosene on the furniture.

They were about to set on fire the office building when the alert police and fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene throwing cold water over the attempted arson.

Dingpi villagers� SOS: Alleging of harassment to the villagers, Dingpi Area Chief Development Peace Committee, 41- Chandel district has informed that the people of the area have facing lot of difficulties as they are been besieged by the security personnel posted at Holiyang for the last couple of days.

In a statement, Committee chairman Ngamkhajan said that the security personnel have forcibly occupied the houses of the villagers and set up their camps and not allowed the people, even school children to venture out of their villages thereby cutting off all communication line with the outside world.

Moreover, the security personnel also threatened one Dongam (34) s/o Hapakang of Selol village with dire consequence if does not bring the photographs of the UG camps and the villagers, the Committee chairman alleged.
