Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Prof N Bijoy today rejected allegations levelled by student body, AMSU pertaining to irregularities in admission process for MSc (previous) in the Life Science Department.
Setting the record straight on AMSU slur against the varsity authorities of 8 candidates recommended for admission from �outside university� category not figuring the second and final list of admission Prof Bijoy cited poor marks culled by these candidates.
Explaining on the matter, he conveyed of total marks secured by the eight in both the BSc and selection test examinations as unsatisfactory compared to candidates who completed degree course from Manipur University but still kept in abeyance as per recommendation list notification.
Divulging further into the marks issue, the VC referred to zoology stream in which the highest score scored by candidates from �outside university category� is 61.22 percent contrary to high of 65.38 percent culled among the waiting candidates.
�This being the case in zoology and botany streams the �outside candidates� securing less mark than those passed under MU were subsequently rejected,� the VC said category rejecting AMSU allegation irregularities in selection of candidates.
Moreover, rejection of the said candidates was decided after a meeting of MU admission committee, he claimed.
On AMSU reference to prospectus guideline of 20 percent reservation of berths from candidates not from MU, the VC terming the prospectus clause as �general information� further added, �it cannot be regarded as explicit rules and regulations for such admission�.
Speaking on plan for development of the University which has been converted into a Central university, the VC said from the current year, the University would begin academic sessions for the newly opened courses in Master of Journalism and Classical dance.
The process for opening them are almost completed, he added.
For journalism course, the varsity would set up an FM Radio sub-station inside the campus at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakhs, the VC said, adding the cost of theme would be borne entirely by the Centre.
By next year, the University would possibly open the faculties of Bio-Technology and Bachelor of Physical Education, he said, while informing that more faculties would also be open for which �we are seriously pursuing�.
On the up-gradation of infrastructures, the VC informed that a SC hostel for girls is on the verge of setting up under the funding of the Ministry of Justice and another ST hostel from another Ministry.
The proposed outdoor stadium would also be constructed under the sponsorship of DONER, he added.
There have been a numbers of provisions for enhancement of equipments for all faculties of the varsity, the VC said.
