Imphal, August 06:
It is said that there is not even a single voter in the list of the Electoral Roll published by State Election Commission recently in the case of Maram Kavanam village which is under Mao-Maram sub-divisions of Senapati disclosed.
Talking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club here today, chairman of Maram Khullen Circle Board L Singba Thomas informed that enumeration of the voters in the village which was recognised by the State Government since 1997 was done for the first time in 2004.At the time of granting the recognition, there were 53 households with a total population in the village which falls under polling station no.49/25 B of Tadubi Assembly Constituency.
But now the number of households in the village has increased to 155 and the population to 1444.Unfortunately, there is not a single voter in the Electoral list prepared by the State Election Commission this time, he lamented.
The chairman recalled that in 2004, the State Government had appointed a teacher of the District Autonomous Council as supervisor and an Assistant teacher of UJB School as enumerator for collecting the data of the voters from the village.
Over and above the case of Maram Kavanam village, only 9 voters of a family have been included in the Electoral roll from the 150-household strong Maram Sagongbam village which is under the same sub-divisions and the same polling station, Thomas pointed out, while informing that although the Government had recognised the village in 1997, the listing of the voters was done only in 2004.These matters have been brought to the notice of the concerned SDO, DC and the circle MLA Francis Ngajokpa, but nothing has been done in this regard and the voters of the two villagers are yet to be included in the Electoral list, he complained.
Observing that this is nothing but violation of the fundamental rights of the people guaranteed by the Constitution of India, Board chairman warned of taking up legal action if the Government and the officials concerned do not rectify the mistake at the earliest.
He also further warned of taking recourse to intense form of agitations by the Board which is a joint body of 15 different villages if the Government remains indifferent to this demand.
