Imphal, December 08:
Decrying the condition of the 23 km long stretch road which runs through Kasom Khullen sub-division connecting it with Yairipok Keithelmanbi in Thoubal district, Kasom Khullen Youth Club (KYC) has questioned where all the money sanctioned for the construction and maintenance of the said road has gone.
Speaking to mediapersons at the office of the Kasom Khullen Village Authority yesterday, KYC Chairman Jojo Robertson asserted that although crores of rupees had been sanctioned/released for the repairing of the road, the same has not been executed properly and the entire stretch is now filled with potholes causing inconveniences to the movement of vehicles and commuters alike.
Although the sub-division is situated at a distance of just 63 kms from Imphal, the commuters have to spend more money as the condition of the road is deplorable, he rued.
Giving a detailed account of the money sanctioned for development of the road, Robertson pointed out that the road was declared a State Highway in 1992, but the repairing/construction of the culverts, retaining walls and shingling had not stopped midway although these works were mandatory to be completed within 1995.Moreover, Robertson said that in 2004 the Union Govt had sanctioned a huge amount of fund under Additional Central Assistance (ACA) for the purpose of tarring the 7 km long stretch from Mayaikeithel as well as for construction of a suspension bridge and second grade WBM, but so far not even half a km of the work has been implemented.
Before the execution of the said work, the Govt had also sanctioned another Rs 19 lakhs for the maintenance of the road.
But there has been no sign of any development taking place with interference from some quarters, he alleged, while appealing to all concerned not to give an sort of undue interference in the development of the road, which is considered as the main lifeline of the people of the area.
Kasom Khullen Division Students Union president SP Chuireingam, who also spoke to the mediapersons, lamented that meetings had been held to discuss the matters related to the development of the sub-division three times between the concerned Ministers and the representatives of the people of the sub-division at the Chief Minister level, but the Govt has not kept its promises.
