Laying the foundation stone of a medical centre at Tamei sub-division in Tamenglong district today, Governor Dr SS Sidhu brought cheers to the people of the sub-division by outlining a series of developmental programmes that are on the offing for Tamenglong district.
Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone, the Governor informed the people that within March 2006, the 72 km stretch of Barak to Jiri road on NH-53 would be double laned.
The required funds to develop the Khongsang-Tamenglong road have also been sanctioned, said the Governor and added that the State Government would be asked to develop the Imphal-Tamenglong road on a priority basis.
Stating that the Government should stress on developing the far flung villages, especially in the hill districts, the Governor said that double laning the 72 km stretch of NH-53 between Barak and Jiribam is part of the Government's endeavour to give a fillip to development in the hill areas.
Developing the Khonghang-Tamenglong road is also on the anvil now, said the Governor and recalled his survey trip of NH-53 some time back.
An estimated sum of Rs 10/13 crores have been sanctioned to develop this stretch, said the Governor.

Mere file work is not enough and if one sincerely wants the interior parts of the State to develop then field work is important.
I have come to Tamei by road today because I wanted to experience the condition of the road, said the Governor.
On the medical centre for which the foundation stone was laid today, the Governor said, the strength of a society depends to a great extent upon the health of its people and healthy people make a healthy Nation.
