Imphal, September 05: Imphal East District Police yesterday apprehended two underground activists of the proscribed KYKL during a cordon and search operation conducted at Leikinthabi area based on specific information.

According to SP of Imphal East L Kailun, the two arrested KYKL activists are identified as lance corporal Thounaojam Jiten Meitei alias Ibungo (24) s/o Th Tolen Singh of Nongpok Heirok Mayai Leikai and lance corporal Thongam Hemanta Meitei alias Premjit (21) s/o Th Kahmu Meitei of Arong Heibung Makhong.

On preliminary interrogation, Jiten disclosed that he joined the outfit in April 2002 through one corporal Basanta of Wangoo of the outfit and got training at Khoupum under one Jiten of KYKL for a duration of three months under army no.4664 of Ist batch of 2002. Thongam Hemanta has disclosed that he joined the outfit in April 1999 through one corporal Sunil of Oksu and trained at Khoupum under sergeant Sunlight for a period of three months in 1999 under army no.649 of 2nd batch of 1999.At the instance of Jiten, the police have also recovered AK-56 with two magazine and 40 live rounds of AK-56 ammunition, one SM Carbine with one magazine and 77 live rounds of 7.62 ammunition from a hillock near Khongnangpokpi village.
